The service
AppraisalPortal UK helps doctors prepare for medical appraisal and revalidation, and helps appraisers review and sign off. The portal and your appraisal records are free to use. Optional learning modules are free to study; a certificate of completion costs £10.00.
The portal is a record-keeping and workflow tool. It does not give clinical or legal advice, and it does not decide anything about your licence to practise. Appraisal outcomes, Responsible Officer recommendations and revalidation decisions are made by the people and bodies responsible for them, including the GMC.
Your account
- You must be a doctor, appraiser or Responsible Officer (or an administrator we have appointed), and give us true details, including your GMC number where asked.
- New accounts are approved by an administrator before first use. We may refuse or close an account if the details cannot be confirmed.
- Two-step verification is required. Keep your password, devices and recovery codes safe. Do not share your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has used it.
- If you lose every second-step device, an administrator can help you back in after checking who you are.
What you may and may not put in the portal
- No patient-identifiable information. Do not enter patient names, dates of birth, NHS numbers, addresses or anything else that identifies a patient, and make sure uploaded documents have been anonymised. You are responsible for what you enter and upload.
- Your appraisal content is yours. You give us permission to store it, show it to the people the portal is designed to show it to (your appraiser, your Responsible Officer, administrators for support), and process it to provide the service.
- Do not try to break, probe or overload the service, access other people's data, or use it for anything unlawful. Do not copy or resell our learning content.
- Feedback links are for the people you invite. Do not try to find out who gave anonymous feedback.
AI features
Where AI features are available they are optional. AI output is a draft: it can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. You must read it, correct it and take responsibility for anything you keep. Learning modules are drafted with AI and reviewed by a named clinician before they are offered; each shows its sources and review date. They are not a substitute for current clinical guidance, and you should use your own judgement and the primary sources.
Paid CPD certificates
- The price is shown before you pay and includes VAT where VAT applies. Payment is taken by Stripe.
- A certificate is issued once you have completed the module (all sections read, enough time spent, quiz passed, reflection written) and paid. It is a certificate of completion. It is not an accredited qualification unless it says so, and it does not mean the GMC or a royal college has approved the module.
- Your right to cancel. You normally have 14 days to cancel a contract for digital content. Because we supply your certificate straight away at your request, you agree before paying that you lose the right to cancel once it is issued. We repeat this in your confirmation email.
- Refunds. If there is a mistake in the content, the certificate is wrong, or we cannot deliver what you paid for, tell us and we will correct it or refund you in full. A refund withdraws the certificate. Your legal rights if digital content is faulty are not affected.
- Anyone can check a certificate code on our verification page. We may withdraw a certificate that was issued in error or obtained by cheating.
Availability and changes
We work to keep the service running and your data safe and backed up, but we cannot promise it will always be available. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose; you can download your data at any time. We may change or stop features. If we plan to close the service we will give you notice and time to download your records.
Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that, we are not liable for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable, for loss of business or profit, or for decisions made by your appraiser, employer, Responsible Officer or the GMC. Our total liability to you for anything connected with the free service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the previous 12 months.
Ending your account
You can ask us to close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that puts others or the service at risk, and will tell you why where we can.
General
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear disputes (if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may use your local courts). We may update these terms; we will tell you in the portal before a material change applies.
