Accessibility statement
Last updated 17 October 2026
Draft wording: not yet reviewed by a solicitor.
We want everyone who needs to complete or review a medical appraisal to be able to use this portal. This statement covers the whole of AppraisalPortal UK, including the pages you see before and after you sign in.
Our standard
We are working to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 level AA. We have not yet had an independent accessibility audit, so we cannot claim full compliance.
What we have done
- Checked every main screen (sign-in, doctor workspace, appraiser review, administrator and Responsible Officer pages) with an automated checker (axe) on desktop and phone widths, and fixed what it found: colour contrast, missing form labels, and scrolling tables that could not be reached by keyboard.
- Built the forms with real labels, visible focus, keyboard-only navigation and error messages in text.
- Made the interface work on a phone and respond to browser zoom.
- Offered passkeys, so you can sign in without typing a password or code.
Known problems
- On the public home page, some text fades in as you scroll. While it is fading, its contrast is briefly below the minimum. If you prefer reduced motion in your device settings, the page is shown without the animation.
- We have not yet tested with a full range of screen readers and speech-recognition tools. Automated checks find only part of the problems, so there may be issues we have not found.
- Documents you or others upload (PDF, Word, Excel) are not ours to make accessible. We cannot guarantee they work with assistive technology.
If you have difficulty using the portal
Tell us what you tried to do, the page, and the device or assistive technology you use. We will reply within 5 working days and, where we can, offer another way to do the same thing, for example by an administrator entering information for you.

Plans
We plan an independent audit and a round of testing with disabled doctors and appraisers during our pilot. We will update this statement afterwards.
